ALWAYS FAST
K1 Speed in Carlsbad, California
Jeff Ward has been just plain fast his entire life. He started out as a minicycle prodigy who wheelied his way into stardom on that bicycle in On Any Sunday, was a young hotshoe in flat track racing, then won countless World Mini GP titles as a Honda XR75 factory rider before turning pro as #336 in the 125 nationals. From there, Ward would win seven major AMA championships, then swerve over into open-wheeled auto racing, where he almost won the Indy 500 three different times. Now 57, Wardy went back to his flat track roots at Daytona, entering the TT and battling with riders one-third his age on the #336 KTM 450 SX-F. He was fast, but bad starts and a near-crash cost him his chance of qualifying for the main. Ward will try again at the end of April at the Arizona Super TT.

Paul Shlegel is a legendary race promoterwas honored with a special recognition award by the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America
Paul Shlegel is a legendary race promoter from Toledo, Ohio, who has had a hand in more events than we can fit in this magazine. From flat track to supercross, arenacross to amateur motocross, Shlegel has built a legacy across many disciplines of moto. Among his most notable accomplishments were co-founding the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn Ranch, organizing the Pontiac Supercross every year, and founding the Lima Half-Mile. During Bike Week at Daytona, he was honored with a special recognition award by the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America. How about full-blown membership next time around?
