eMTB Electric mountain bike (eMTB) racing has a new home with the Grand National Cross Country series in 2019 with an eight-race series that will run in conjunction with the General, Steele Creek, the John Penton, Tomahawk, Snowshoe, Loretta Lynn’s (eMTB only), Mason-Dixon, and Ironman GNCC races.
TWMX In January, TransWorld Motocross editor Donn Maeda announced the magazine was going “on pause” after the company was bought by American Media, Inc., which also owns the National Enquirer. It doesn’t look like they’re coming back, but Donn and crew have started swapmotolive.com to pick up where they left off.
HERLINGS As the heavy favorite was preparing for his MXGP title defense, a practice crash left the Dutch KTM king with a couple broken bones in his foot in late January. With barely a month to go before the Argentina opener, he was expected to miss that race, but then he has three more weeks to heal and be ready for the second round. We won’t bet against him.
LIME The San Diego mudder became toxic when too much lime was apparently added to the dirt to try to absorb the water quickly. It ended up destroying a lot of expensive race bikes and causing irritating skin rashes that had the riders complaining for days after the race.
ITALY After coming very close to winning the 2018 FIM Motocross of Nations at RedBud, Team Italy found out four months later that they were disqualified from the event because Michele Cervellin’s fuel was out of compliance. At least Team USA can now say they finished fifth overall.
