ndrew at Race Tech Engines is fast becoming one of the top engine builders in the West, and we gave him our CRF250R kit out with a Cylinder Works big-bore kit. The Honda is a great bike, but it’s just a bit slow in this class. These mods give the motor plenty of bark while keeping the reliability almost as good as stock. The motor still runs the stock cams and valve train, so durability is excellent. We also removed the backfire screen. Race Tech is obviously known for suspension, and they nailed it on this old-guy setup. DeCal Works and MotoSeat did a great job with the look of the bike, and we used some fantastic companies to complement many of these performance mods. Renthal, Dunlop, Works Connection, and Scar all provided parts that were collective cherries on top of this little red machine.
On the track, the bike is a blast. The additional torque digs out of turns and up hills much better than the stock bore. The revs are good, though they could be much better with aftermarket valves and cams. However, our goal wasn’t maximum performance but increased performance without decreasing durability. No part of the engine is worse than stock—just improvements. The suspension is great, and the overall handling is phenomenal. The Honda has always been a comfortable bike anyway—we just polished it even further. This is a fun bike to ride and something to look at if you have the same goals we did. A very special thanks to www.perrismx.com for having us out on the track.
