Racer X: You’re heading to Europe to do some training and to watch the MXoN in the Netherlands. Tell us about that.
Alessio Sasso: Yeah, so my dad and I are going to the Netherlands to watch the Motocross of Nations and ride a little bit over there. I’ve never been to the Netherlands or a Motocross of Nations, so I’m stoked!

Do you think training on a rough track like Lommel in Belgium will help you here in the states?
Absolutely. I think that being able to consistently train on rough, deep tracks like Lommel will help with my progress and overall ability on a dirt bike. The tracks over here in California are great because they’re open most days of the week, but they aren’t the best for training because they don’t get as rough as it does during race time. And it especially doesn’t get rough like Loretta Lynn’s, which is why I think tracks like Lommel will help me progress and prepare to become a professional racer.

I heard you mention that you might be racing the EMX250 class in Europe next year. Can you tell us a bit about that?
Yeah, my plan is to go over to Europe for a year, mainly for training, but I also want to do some racing. The idea is to race the EMX250 class in the European championship, which is the level below the MX2 World Championship. This class is very similar to the A classes over here in the states, except that the EMX250 class is more professional. What I mean by that is they race on the same track as the MX2 and MXGP riders and have a very similar format for the day. Each race is 25 minutes plus 2 laps, which is quite a bit longer than the seven-lap races that the A class does over here. So I really think that doing this championship and having the longer races on rougher tracks is really going to benefit and help with my progression as a racer, as well as help me make an easier transition into the pro ranks.

What are your goals going forward?
My goals for the future are to become a 250 and 450 champion in either the pro motocross and supercross championships or the MX2 and MXGP championship in Europe. I’ve had these goals for a while now, and I don’t plan on stopping until I get to where I want to be. Oh, and to always have fun along the way!

Last but not least, what’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in life that you will always carry with you?
One thing I’ve learned is to never give up, no matter the circumstance—always give your best and keep pushing. Always be thankful for the position you’re in, because no matter how bad you may think you have it, someone else out there has it worse.
